1. Build your outfit through layering

Autumn weather can be unpredictable, which is why layering is at the heart of Sinead's styling philosophy.

"I used a lot of layering throughout my FatFace edit. Think a shirt with a tank top, then a knit or gilet, finished with an overcoat, wax jacket or parka. It means you can peel a layer off as the day changes, tie it around your waist and still keep all those beautiful textures, colours and fabrics working together."

Layering isn't just practical. It adds depth and interest to an outfit while making your wardrobe work harder throughout the season.

2. Mix textures with confidence

One of Sinead's favourite ways to elevate an outfit is by combining fabrics that complement each other.

"Don't be afraid to mix textures and patterns. I love pairing herringbone with flecked knitwear or heritage prints with folk-inspired patterns. They're all part of the same family of timeless fabrics, so they naturally work beautifully together."

From tweed and cable knits to brushed cotton and soft wool, combining textures is an easy way to create an outfit that feels considered without trying too hard.

3. Invest in timeless pieces

When it comes to building a wardrobe you'll love for years to come, Sinead always comes back to classic, heritage-inspired dressing.

"For me, classic style is all about pieces that stand the test of time. That's what I loved about styling the FatFace collection. The cables, tweeds, wax jackets, Donegal knits and plaid shirts all have that heritage feel. They're not just for one season. They're the kind of pieces you'll wear for years and even pass down through generations."

Choosing timeless styles over fleeting trends creates a wardrobe that's both versatile and enduring.

4. Don't shy away from colour

Autumn doesn't have to mean dressing head-to-toe in neutrals.

"Be brave with colour. What FatFace does so well is use beautifully muted tones that feel easy to wear. Pair a rich orange knit with smudgy navy or khaki and suddenly it feels grounded, wearable and unmistakably autumnal. Colour can make you look healthier, feel more confident and bring a real sense of joy."

Introducing colour through knitwear, shirts or accessories is an easy way to refresh your autumn wardrobe without stepping too far outside your comfort zone.

5. Finish with thoughtful details

According to Sinead, it's often the smallest details that make the biggest difference.

"Accessories instantly elevate a look. Printed scarves, socks, hats, gloves or jewellery all add personality and create a more considered outfit. They're the pieces you'll keep in your wardrobe forever and bring out year after year. And my final tip? Don't underestimate the power of feeling good before you get dressed. Whether it's a manicure, good skincare or simply taking a moment for yourself, a smile really is the best accessory."

Sometimes it's the finishing touches. Not just what you wear, but how you feel. That really brings an outfit to life.
