In the Spotlight... Truro

March 13, 2018

Let us take you on a whistle-stop tour of our favourite UK holiday destinations. Truro is a bustling cathedral city in Cornwall. To find out more, we’ll hand over to Vicky, the store manager of Truro FatFace…

There’s a lot to discover in Truro. Come here to shop, eat and wander the cobbled streets. Visit our lovely parks and try a proper Cornish cream tea!

Dressing for city adventures

We’re laid-back at heart, and we like our clothes to match. A pretty dress or jumpsuit is perfect for exploring the city streets and parks by day. If you’re staying for the evening, just add some wedges and a denim jacket – or try something from our Copper and Black range.

All the shops you need

Pick up everything you need to wear for your Cornish holiday at our store and then visit all the local independent shops. One of our favourites is Uneeka, a quirky homewares place a couple minutes from our shop. It even has its own fabulous coffee shop with amazing homemade cakes.

Bustling markets

Truro is home to not one, but three markets. Lemon Street Market has lots of small independent businesses under one roof – there are beautiful gifts, delicious artisan bread, a gallery and in-house coffee shop. Nearby, on Lemon Quay, there’s a Farmer’s Market every Wednesday and Saturday. The indoor Pannier Market, on Back Quay, has a great selection of traditional market stalls.

Take a boat trip or hop on a bike

During the summer boats run daily from Truro to Falmouth, calling at the beautiful Trelissick Estate on the way. When you get to Falmouth there are beaches, shops and the National Maritime Museum to explore – plus another FatFace! We also have some of the best cycle routes in Cornwall starting in and near Truro.

Café culture

In Truro, there’s a coffee shop, tea room or pasty shop round every corner. We love Emily’s for delicious lunches and the 108 Coffee House for coffee and cakes. A visit to traditional Charlotte’s Teahouse is like travelling back in time. The only thing you need to worry about is whether to put the jam or cream on your scone first!

A rich history

A trip to Truro isn’t complete without visiting our beautiful cathedral with its eye-catching spires. The Cathedral is free to visit and runs children’s activities during the school holidays. Brush up on your Cornish history at The Royal Cornwall Museum and discover their amazing Roman and Egyptian artifacts.

Plenty of parks

When you’re ready for a break from the busy streets, call into one of our lovely parks. Our favourite is Victoria Gardens. It’s an old-fashioned Victorian park with plenty of green space, exotic plants and a band stand with live music in the summer. The park is overlooked by a stunning viaduct and it’s the perfect place to have a picnic and spend time with friends.

Feeling hungry?

The Old Grammar School near the Cathedral does great lunches and we love Hubbox for evening drinks and great food. We’re also fans of the Craftworks Street Kitchen– a quirky little street food place in a shipping container on Lemon Quay. They serve delicious burgers, burritos and more – all with a locally-sourced Cornish twist.

And if you’re missing the beach…

Go to Perranporth. It’s about a 20-minute drive away and it’s a wonderful place to watch the sun go down. Here you’ll also find our favourite beach bar, the Watering Hole!
