Things to Do in Rhosneigr

July 14, 2018

Let us take you on a whistle-stop tour of our favourite UK holiday destinations. Get ready to fall in love with Rhosneigr, a charming seaside village on Anglesey. To find out more, we’ll hand over to Jan, the store manager at FatFace Rhosneigr, to let us in on all the great things to see and do in the area…

Rhosneigr is a village hidden away on the west coast of Anglesey. We’ve been a summer holiday favourite for generations. I think time feels different here. Rhosneigr has a simple charm that never goes out of date – and if you stay for a few days then you'll soon leave the 9-5 behind.

Make the beach your playground

Our store is just a few steps from Rhosneigr beach. Call in to pick up a few last-minute essentials for a day on the sands, and then pop next door to Mojo’s for a coffee and freshly cooked pancakes. Sometimes we get all four seasons in one day, so don’t forget your pretty dresses, hats, hoodies and towels. Down on the beach we’ve got just the right type of wind for surfing and kitesurfing – and on calmer days, stand-up paddle boarding and kayaking is great fun for all the family. Just east of the village is Broad Beach, a gorgeous wide beach backed by sand dunes. Set up your windbreak and spend the day collecting cowry shells, making sandcastles and paddling in the sea. Later, stroll back to the village for an ice cream at Chaplin’s.

A sanctuary by the sea

Anglesey gives you all the freedom of island life within easy reach of the mainland. We’ve got enough space for everyone to find their own little piece of heaven. If the beach feels too busy, just walk ten minutes to the next one. North of Rhosneigr is Cymyran Beach. It’s beautiful and peaceful. When you’re ready, head back to Rhosneigr for delicious food at the Oystercatcher on Broad Beach. This glass-fronted restaurant and bar is right on the sand dunes. Sit on the terrace with a beer, snuggle up in a warm jumper and enjoy one of our famous sunsets.

Something different around every corner

The landscape on Anglesey is so beautiful and varied. We’ve got gentle rolling countryside and wild, craggy beauty, all within a short distance. The easy walk along the coastal path from Rhosneigr to Aberffraw is full of surprises. Halfway along you’ll find the atmospheric Barclodiad y Gawres, a Neolithic burial mound, surrounded by sea, green rolling hills and a distant view of Snowdonia. More beauty can be found north of Rhosneigr at Holy Island. Here you’ll find South Stack lighthouse and the RSPB clifftop nature reserve where you can enjoy the stunning views, while keeping an eye out for puffins and other native seabirds.

Adventures from dawn till dusk

Join a trained instructor at Porth Dafarch beach on Holy Island for a day of coasteering around the cliffs, sea and caves. And if you’re feeling really adventurous you can sign up for a night cliff camping on a portaledge overhanging the sea! The kayaking on Anglesey is also brilliant and you’ll often find me heading out in my campervan for a day on the water. Paddling under the White Arch at Rhoscolyn takes some beating! If you prefer your adventures on solid ground, then we’ve got some great cycling on offer too. The route from Trearddur Bay to South Stack is particularly lovely and there are great family cycle paths at Newborough Forest. For something more competitive, there’s the Tour de Môn cycle race in August.
