We’re so proud to have partnered up with Graduate Fashion Week this year, supporting a new generation of designers across universities and colleges from the UK. As part of the competition, Emma Shaw, our Director of Design, set graduates from universities and colleges nationwide the task of designing a unisex t-shirt that embodied the FatFace spirit.
Graduate Fashion Week – Discovering New Talent
The judges — designers Henry Holland, Christopher Raeburn, Holly Fulton, journalist Hilary Alexander OBE and Emma — selected the four winning designs, which were recently seen at the Best of Graduate Fashion Week catwalk show, which celebrates the winners and their designs.
When asked why FatFace got involved in the competition, Emma said: “Home grown talent has been integral to the growth of FatFace over the past 30 years, so when Graduate Fashion Week asked us to be involved, we were delighted to support. We look forward to supporting the winning designers in the first steps of their exciting careers.”
Congratulations to Harriet Bornemann, Lauren Smith, Hannah Morley and Kirsty Walmsley. Find out why their winning designs were chosen…
Moon Tripper Graphic T-Shirt
Designed by Hannah Morley, who studies at the University of Central Lancashire, this tee was chosen by journalist Hilary Alexander OBE.
“The day of judging was a few days from the death of Stephen Hawking and I was reminded of his theories on the solar system. Moon Tripper was my immediate winner.”
Get FatFaced Graphic T-Shirt
Designed by Lauren Smith, who studies at Leeds Art University, this tee was chosen by designer Henry Holland.
“I am proud to be involved in GFW with FatFace. I loved the humour in this graphic fitting with the brand essence.
Mountain Bear Graphic T-Shirt
Designed by Kirsty Walmsley, who studies at UCA Rochester, this tee was chosen by designer Christopher Raeburn.
“As a lover of animals and the great outdoors, Kirsty’s design really appealed to me on a personal note. With the balanced design and considered colour palette, I look forward to wearing mine!”
Abstract Graphic T-Shirt
Designed by Harriet Bornemann, who studies at Norwich University of the Arts, this tee was chosen by designer Holly Fulton.
“I chose Harriet’s design as the fresh graphicism captured the energy, dynamism and optimism that both FatFace and GFW represent for me. The bold palette and contemporary simplicity stood out for me and showed a confident of design that I admired.”
A percentage of the profits from the sale of the t-shirts will go to Graduate Fashion Week, to continue with their support of emerging design talent. Find out more about the event here.
