This season, we’re all about being inspired by travelling and adventure, and wanted to bring that to life through our lifestyle imagery. We needed a place that had it all; rich culture, beautiful vistas and amazing people… Join us on the production team’s journey of Sri Lanka as they went on this season’s photoshoot.
We ventured off to the coastal towns of Talpe and Galle, both loved for their beaches, sea life and dense jungles. These were the perfect backdrops to create a tropical, travel inspired shoot.
We took 4 adult models, 8 little models and our in-house production team to bring this action-packed trip to life. We had Mayumi join us as our stunning Sri Lankan model, who also helped translate with the locals in each of the locations we were shooting at. Like our summer shoot in South Africa, this again was a family affair — all our young models knew each other from school and Roman and Sirius (the two blonde boys) are actually brothers.
Stepping off the plane, we were hit with explosion of colour, noise, smell and a sweltering 37-degree heat. Minus the heat, this made finding the perfect shoot locations come naturally. The hustle and bustle of the highways and rail stations to the calm and tranquillity of the secluded beaches gave the incredible contrast we were searching for.
One location that we were most proud of was the hand-built fruit stall, which looked so good that even the locals were stopping off to pick up a mango or two. Another favourite of our days on location was the train shoot, in which we disrupted the locals’ morning commute (which they were quite happy about) by getting our models stuck in on this jam-packed journey. Duncan, one of the models on board was obviously quite a hit with ladies. We’re not sure why…
Let’s not forget what made this a shoot to remember… The locals of Sri Lanka were some of the friendliest, helpful and supportive people we’ve come across, who were genuinely interested in what we were doing and offering a helping hand wherever they could.
