Behind the Scenes on Location — South Africa

May 08, 2018

Ah, summer. The time for sun, sea, sand, and a brand new FatFace photoshoot. Want to see a sneak peek of what we got up to? Of course you do…

We jetted off to Elands Bay and Yzerfontein in Cape Town, South Africa, which was the perfect location for creating a road trip adventure. The long highways provided some great footage of our road strip story. We transformed the Shack on the beach at Elands Bay into a fairground scene with some amazing props, carousel horses, a candyfloss machine and plenty of sweet treats. The ‘donuts’ on the day of the kids’ shoot were actually bagels with coloured cream cheese frosting! The kids weren’t so sure about those…

It was also where our models took to the waves for a surfing shoot. In fact, Brandon — one of our shoot guys, decided to hit the waves and became an unexpected model wearing the Palm Tree Graphic T-Shirt.

And The Lighthouse, which was the name of the house at Yzerfontein, is where we stayed for two nights. It was an absolutely beautiful location where we shot our Copper & Black collection and the majority of our blue and white stories. Keep your eyes peeled online to see more!

On set secrets

South Africa is full of amazing wildlife. We spotted seals and ostriches on our travels, and had to look out for tortoises crossing the road. And Ian, aka Skip, from the Production Team was surprised to find a FatFace soap dish in the bathroom of The Lighthouse!

We had 7 children and 2 adults on set the last day of shooting. This is the most amount of people we’ve ever shot in one day! It was mayhem, but just the right kind of mayhem.

The photoshoot really was a family affair. Two of the young models, Daniel and Amelie, are brother and sister. And Declan’s two year old brother Eli made it into the shoot too. We also used little Logan to showcase our new 2-3-year range, alongside his mum, Kristie and dad, AJ. Check out this great pic below!

And we can’t forget to mention the bunting we used for our Copper & Black shoot. It was made by our very own super sewer Catherine James, who works in our Marketing team. She said the Liberty fabric was a dream to work with. Check it out in the background below…
