In partnership with the National Forest, and together with FatFace Foundation, we’ve planted almost 60,000 trees, forming what is now known as Minorca Woods – a thriving natural haven spanning nearly 100 acres across Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Staffordshire.
The aim of the partnership is to nurture a beautiful, resilient woodland for communities to enjoy for generations, by planting 60,000 trees that will grow and store carbon for the next 75 years. Fatface are proud to have made a financial contribution during the early stages of this project. Biodiversity has been at the centre of our approach, creating a rich and rewarding environment for both wildlife and the people who will walk its paths in the years to come. • We’ve planted a rich mix of species – including Aspen, Beech, Oak, Silver Birch, and Nordic Spruce – to create a resilient environment that guards against threats like Ash Dieback. • For the first time in over a century, dormice have been reintroduced to the area, and several butterfly species have made a welcome return to Minorca Woods. • With intentionally shaped grassland for sheep grazing and wetland areas for migrating birds, the woods are designed to be experienced first-hand through scenic trails and rolling landscapes.
The National Forest team is always looking for new ways to expand opportunities for people and wildlife alike. Outdoor learning: expanding the programme for schools and teachers to help connect children with the natural world. Tree corridors: extending and connecting habitats through the Tree Corridor Programme to help wildlife move and thrive across the wider landscape. Dedicating trees: you can also help The National Forest grow by dedicating a tree to a loved one, complete with a personalised message and certificate.
