Product

We have a responsibility to our planet, to each other. Yes, we make clothes. But we want to make clothes that last, are great quality, and made in the most ethical, responsible way possible. Responsible fabrics and processes aren’t a nice-to-have when we’re planning our collections. They are the first thing we think about, and our teams are constantly innovating to try and do better.

In the last 12 months

  • 73% viscose from responsible sources.
  • 39% polyester from recycled sources.
  • 87% leather from Leather Working Group tanneries.
  • Over 80% of our products now have sustainability certification.

Fabrics

We’re committed to sourcing and selecting the right fabrics that will not only make the best products for you, but also limit our impact on the planet and our people. From responsibly sourced cotton to biodegradable wood pulps and hemp, discover more about what your FatFace clothes are made of and how we’re continuing to reinvent, reuse and reconsider. Read on below to find out why these raw materials are better than conventional alternatives.

Caring about Cotton

100% of the cotton for our cotton products is responsibly sourced. We’ve achieved this by sourcing both organically grown cotton and responsibly sourced Better Cotton for all our cotton products. FatFace is certified to the Organic Content Standard (OCS) and members of Better Cotton.

Organic Cotton

The production of organic cotton sustains the health of soils, ecosystems, and people by using natural processes rather than artificial inputs. We use the Organic Content Standard (OCS) which verifies organically grown material and tracks it from source to final product.

FatFace is certified to the OCS, which certifies and tracks organically grown content from the source to the final product.

FatFace is committed to sourcing 100% of our Organic products from OCS & GOTS certified sources.

Better Cotton

FatFace are committed to improving cotton farming practices globally with Better Cotton. Better Cotton’s mission is to help cotton communities survive and thrive, while protecting and restoring the environment.

We have been a proud member of the Better Cotton Initiative since 2016, and this partnership is one of the reasons we can say 100% of our cotton is responsibly sourced.

Better Cotton is sourced via a chain of custody model called mass balance. This means that Better Cotton is not physically traceable to end products, however, Better Cotton Farmers benefit from the demand for Better Cotton in equivalent volumes to those we ‘source’.

  • Better Cotton is only licensed by BCI farmers
  • Investing & Improving

Investing in Better Cotton directly contributes to the training of more farmers, increasing the demand for Better Cotton, allowing more Better Cotton to be sourced and more farmers to be trained.

  • Throughout The Supply Chain Better Cotton Will Mix With Conventional Cotton

Making it tricky to track down how much BCI cotton is in these products exactly.

  • Good News

We class this as being sourced more responsibly, through our sourcing of Better Cotton, we invest in the training of Better Cotton farmers. Improving the farming practices of over 2.4 million cotton farmers in 23 countries worldwide.

  • In 2022

An estimated 1.6 billion litres of water were saved thanks to our sourcing of Better Cotton.

Better Cotton farmers benefitted from an estimated 300,000 EUR additional profit* thanks to our sourcing of Better Cotton. *Better Cotton farmers experience profit increases for a variety of reasons, most commonly due to increased yields and/or optimised use of inputs (such as irrigation water, pesticides, or synthetic fertiliser).

An estimated 1000kgs of pesticides were avoided thanks to our sourcing of Better Cotton.

LENZING™ ECOVERO™

LENZING™ ECOVERO™ Viscose fibres are derived from sustainable wood and pulp, coming from certified and controlled sources.

You can be assured that your fashion choices are sensitive to environmental concerns. Up to 50% lower emissions and water impact compared to generic viscose. According to Higg MSI™ tools, CO2 emissions and fossil recourse use are approximately half that of the industry average.

TENCEL™ Modal

TENCEL™ Modal fibres are mainly manufactured from the renewable raw material beech wood, sourced from sustainable forests in Austria and neighbouring countries.

The fibres are biodegradable and compostable under industrial, home, soil, fresh water and marine conditions, thus they can fully revert back to nature.

The fibres naturally manage the transportation of moisture, enhancing fabrics by keeping your skin feeling pleasantly comfortable. Derived from natural material, the sub-structure of modal fibres is structured to regulate the absorption and release of moisture. This contributes to breathable fabrics that support the body’s natural temperature regulating properties, creating a refreshingly cooling sensation on your skin.

TENCEL™ Lyocell

TENCEL™ Lyocell fibres are derived from sustainable wood sources - sustainably managed forests. Wood and pulp used by the Lenzing Group is harvested from certified and controlled sources.

Biodegradable and compostable under industrial, home, soil, fresh water and marine conditions, thus they can fully revert to nature.

The fibres absorb moisture more efficiently than cotton. This supports the body’s natural thermal regulating mechanism, keeping your skin feeling cool and dry throughout the day and night.

TENCEL™ Lyocell fibres are naturally smooth to the touch and enhance the quality of fabrics to glide lightly over your skin, also creating a smooth drape, for a flattering appearance. To look good and feel good!

Recycle & Reuse

Recycled Polyester

Our recycled polyester pieces help to reduce CO2 emissions because they need less water and energy to create. Our recycled polyester is derived from post-consumer and pre-consumer waste, diverting plastic waste away from landfill and waterways and into styles you love to wear. Plastic bottles? Yes, and other waste we generate every day.

Standards we use:
Recycled Claim Standard (RCS) and Global Recycled Standard (GRS)

We are certified to Recycled Claim Standard (RCS) and Global Recycled Standard (GRS) (Certified by CUC - 100075), which certifies recycled material from the source to final product.

FatFace is committed to sourcing 100% of our recycled polyester from RCS & GRS certified sources by 2025.

Recycled 100 Claim Standard. Certified by Control Union 100075. Global Recycled Standard. Certified by Control Union 100075.
REPREVE®

REPREVE® use plastic waste and bottles to create polyester. Focusing on consumer waste destined for landfills and our oceans. REPREVE® has recycled more than 36 billion plastic bottles in total as a business. The number of recycled bottled they recycle goes up by approximately 4,300 per minute!

All Natural

Hemp

Hemp is nature’s purifier and one of the most efficient crops for capturing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. For every tonne of hemp produced, 1.63 tonnes of carbon are removed from the atmosphere. It grows densely, therefore reducing the need for harsh herbicides and pesticides. It’s breathable, biodegradable and long lasting too.

Linen

Mix style and strength with our 100% natural linen and linen blend styles that are designed to last. Made with less water during production (and therefore less environmental impact), our linen may be breathable and light but it is also super strong and durable for many years to come.

European Flax Linen

European Flax™ guarantees the origin and the traceability for premium quality flax fibres grown in Western Europe for all end uses. A plant fibre, produced through farming that is respectful of the environment, without irrigation*, GMOs and with low pesticide or fertilizer requirements.

*Except in exceptional circumstances.

Flax is grown in rotation and is planted every 6 to 7 years on a plot, which helps to preserve the soil and keep it healthy. A 100% vegetal and vegan fibre, all parts of the plant are valued, therefore creating zero waste.

Responsible Wool

Products certified to the Responsible Wool Standard (RWS) contain wool from farmers certified to animal welfare & land management requirements.
