International Women's Day

March 04, 2020

“An equal world is an enabled world.”

International Women’s Day on March 8th is a global day celebrating the achievements of women across the world. It’s also a time to reflect on how we can accelerate women’s equality. At FatFace, we’re so proud to be working alongside an inspirational team of women who are leading the way and breaking the mould in both business and at home.

To celebrate this important day, we’re catching up with a few of our very own inspirational women to find out more about their successes and how they cope with ‘doing it all’.

Meet Kate. Kate is a wife, mum of two and our Product Director. She’s always loved clothes and fashion and after completing her art degree, managed to turn her hobby into her dream job. Her biggest piece of advice to working mums is to accept that your best is good enough — you can follow your dreams and do it all!

“International Women’s Day is a chance to recognise women’s achievements across the globe, show appreciation for each other and a bit of girl power.”

Laura is our International Branch Merchandiser and has been at FatFace for 16 years. She’s also responsible for implementing a range of our charity initiatives through the FatFace Foundation. As well as running marathons, she loves getting out with her incredibly cute pooch, Bertie.

“My idol is Paula Radcliffe. I think she’s brilliant. I also look up to my mum. We took completely different career routes, but she has always supported me massively.”

Jo is our all-round superwoman. Not only is she a brand-new mum but she’s also the Head of Retail Operations, helping to develop our crew, trade product, and drive sales and profit. She started working in retail for four days of the week as a side job alongside her full time studies.

“My advice to anyone would be to take every opportunity that presents itself… you never know where it might take you.”

Meet Zona. As the Head of IT, she keeps the lights on at FatFace and generally gets stuff done. Having started her career at FatFace in Ecommerce, over time she realised she had more of a technical brain, so IT was a natural next step. Not only is she a mum to two girls but Zona’s in charge of delivering a great customer experience by developing our IT technologies.

“I am a massive Harry Potter fan, so JK Rowling has to be one of my inspirations. Also Michelle Obama. But I have to also mention my girlfriends. We are all so different. I admire them enormously.”

As Senior Accessories Buyer, Rachel always has her hands full. But that doesn’t faze her as she wanted to get into fashion from the age of 10. She describes her style as classic and edgy, and prefers to invest in key wardrobe pieces.

“I love everything about my job. No two days are the same, which keeps it really interesting.”
