Making the basics better

February 28, 2018

It’s just a basic tee, right? WRONG! We work tirelessly to make our tees and vests the best they can possibly be. Getting the fit just right, choosing the softest, most durable fabrics and designing more shapes and colours than you can shake a stick at. They really are anything but basic.

Our Jersey Designer, Sophie, working on the Spring collection.

Carefully considered design

Creating perfect pieces that fit and flatter is a labour of love for our designers. Sketching, pinning, tweaking until they are just perfect. Each piece has been fine tuned for a fit that’s so spot-on, you won’t want to take it off. They go with absolutely anything too - perfect for layering and oh-so versatile.

It’s all about the fabric

We use a special blend of pima cotton and modal, which together give the ultimate in softness and durability. Our cotton is Better Cotton Initiative approved too, which means it’s good for people and the environment.

We use pima cotton as it's finer, stronger and more durable

Famous for its jersey, we get our fabric from one of the best mills in Portugal: a rural, family-run business that’s been going for 18 years. Alphonso, the manager, is quite possibly the happiest man in the world. And why wouldn’t he be? It’s such a great place to work, his father came out of retirement to return to the mill (and out from under his wife’s feet!). You won’t find any special treatment here though, he works the same hours and shifts as all the other workers.

Made well, worn well.

Once knit, the fabrics are dyed and brushed to give them that supersoft feel. They are then individually checked to make sure they’re the highest quality, before being made into our tees.

Surrounded by rolling hills and orange groves sits the family run Pedrosa factory. This is where our Anything but Basic range is carefully crafted. The factory was founded in 1982 and we are proud to work with Ana, daughter of the factory owners, who personally makes sure these tees and vests are the best you’ll ever wear.

Beautiful clothes, made by happy people.

Sabina Pedrosa and Casimiro Rodrigues opened the business in Sabina’s parents’ garage with a team of three people. From small beginnings come great things, as the factory is now woven into the fabric of the community. They also do loads of great stuff for charity, which we think is pretty cool.
