4th UK Indoor Slalom Championships 2004 - Why this sport?
- If you don't know then you haven't tried it. What could be better than using Mother Nature to propel you along at 30mph, jump 30 ft in the air and ride waves? It's one addiction that is legal!
- How did you get into it?
- I read a book, thought it looked cool and nagged my parents until they bought me a lesson for my 14th birthday. After that I was hooked
- What next?
- Continue competing in the wavesailing discipline and make sure I fill all the pages of my passport by the time I'm 30.
- Any other sports?
- Surfing, Mountain Biking, anything that gets me out there. I'm always willing to try new sports that are different and exciting.
- Favourite event and why?
- UKWA Ireland Triple Crown. A great place, good wind, good waves, nice people. The closest place to Hawaii in the Atlantic.
- Favourite place in the world?
- Scarborough… the one on Cape Point in South Africa not the one in the North of England.
- Training regime?
- Spending as much time out in the waves as possible.
- What makes you good at your sport?
- Practice, dedication, etc, etc - that's all a bit boring, so I'd say that it comes from a love of just being out on the water. As a windsurfer you get to look back at the land from a totally different perspective.
- Advice to others wanting to get into the sport?
- Hurry up, stop putting it off. Windsurfing is so easy to learn these days. Stable boards, light weight sails and rapid progression make it a great sport to do with your mates.
