Why this sport?
I come from a family of keen surfers and ocean lovers so I guess you could say it is in my blood! It keeps me fit and healthy and it has allowed me to travel the world. I love the lifestyle... it truly is living the dream... I feel so lucky.
How did you get into it?
My Dad was responsible for getting my whole family into surfing. All of our family holidays revolved around the surf and we grew up in Jersey near the beach so it just seemed like a natural thing for me to do. My brother Ben is currently European Longboard champion and placed 2nd in the World surfing games, my sister Sophie is also a really good longboarder, she came second in the English nationals this year so the bug got all of us!
What next?
I have a year packed full of travel. My boyfriend Oli travels every month on the WQS to some of the best waves in the world so I plan to travel to visit him as much as possible and surf waves that will push my ability.….I plan to push myself to surf waves that stretch my boundaries. My next event is the Fat face night surf at Lusty Glaze, Cornwall which is my favorite event of the year, its so much fun surfing at night. My plan is to be a good ambassador for surfing and the healthy lifestyle that goes with it….I want to help people see that life is out there.
Any other sports?
Snowboarding, Snow-Surfing, Snake-boarding, Swimming.
Favourite event and why?
The Biarritz Surf festival, France. It is the mecca of longboarding... you get to surf with some of the best longboarders in the world. Plus it's sunny, the water’s warm and they have some great parties!
Favourite place in the world?
It's a tie between South Portugal and Bali, Indonesia. Both places have great waves and a great climate.
Favourite UK spot?
Watergate Bay, Cornwall…..There is always a familiar face in the line up and the waves are so fun.
Training regime?
I wake up early and check the surf ….I am really lucky that my boyfriend Oli has a place overlooking Fistral beach on one side and all the way up the north coast on the other so it’s a pretty easy surf check! Breakfast is so important, I have a big bowl of porridge with Soya milk and bananas. If the conditions are good I will have a surf with my lovely boyfriend to start the day off. Oli is a Pro surfer on the World Qualifying Tour so when he is at home and not competing eating healthily and surfing as much as possible is the main focus to keep ourselves in top shape.
What makes you good at your sport?
I love it! The fact that I have such a passion for my longboarding makes it easier for me to do all the training. There are a few sacrifices you have to make, but it’s worth it in the long run..
Advice to others wanting to get into the sport?
Take some proper lessons or get someone who surfs to take you. If you are going to give it a try in England wait for the summer....the English winter can put even the keenest surfer off! Keep going, it isn't a quick or easy sport to pick up but if you can get into it, it will bring you so much pleasure.
Married, Single, kids? Tell all!
I have a lovely boyfriend - Oli...he is a pro surfer.
Life is out there...
