There are a few artificial ski slopes dotted around the country (have a search on the web) but nothing beats getting out on a mountain with a qualified ski instructor. If you’re looking to get into freeskiing then Verbier in the French Alps has got to be the best place in the world to do it.
What equipment do I need to start me off?
Fat Skis and a helmet would be a cunning plan…not to mention all the all important avalanche safety equipment!
Where can I get this from?
Any reputable ski shop.
Is there a basic fitness level required at entry level?
For general skiing you need to have a basic level of fitness. If you’re planning on doing some freeskiing then your fitness level needs to be pretty high; you really don’t want to get half way down a face in the middle of nowhere only to find you cannot make the bottom!
Any big events that we should know about?
There are lots of European and World Tour events scattered across Europe, along with exhibition events such as the Redbull Snowthrill in Gressoney, Italy which is running until the 23rd of March.
