What To Try Out The Sport?

Where can I learn?
There are many sailing centres around the UK. The best way to find out the closest and best one to you is visit the Royal Yachting Association web site.
What equipment do I need to start me off?
You’ll need some good waterproofs, a buoyancy aid and a pair of waterproof boots. If you’re really keen, it may be worth investing in a wetsuit.
Where can I get the kit from?
There are a variety of sailing retail outlets online and in the high street. You can find these by searching for Chandleries on the internet and in the Yellow pages.

The boat has a hull, sails, a mast, rigging and foils. It’s all about using the wind and you will hear people talking about how strong the wind is in Knots and the Beaufort scale for strength.
Good places in the UK to try out the sport
Weymouth where the 2012 sailing part of the Olympics will be held and any where on the Solent, there are plenty of centres there to learn.
Is there a basic fitness level required at entry level?
You’ll need to be able to swim 50m, be fairly flexible and have good balance.
