“A fantastic start to the season. Felt like I’d not been off snow for the summer but got straight back into the thick of it with lots of gate training and work on Technical aspects of my position and weight in the turn.
Had a few crashes though – one included a double bounce that catapulted me into a forward somersault, where I completely cleared a 1.5 metre snow bank doing 30-40mph and landed headfirst into a cat track (pretty sudden stop). Luckily, I started moving bits and it all worked the same, no damage at all to me but bent the ski…!!
I’ve done lots of work on my bucket and sitski, fine tuning the padding. Also tested all my new skis and loved them all – well happy! Once again we’ve had great support from the British Paralympic Association (strength and conditioning coaches and sports psychologists) who came and did some work with us. We also had three days with Tony English (Sunday Mail - Winter Correspondent) for lots of interviews, video footage for the internet and pictures for a feature in the paper.
Overall a very successful camp! Bring on the first race of the season 8/9th Dec – Breckenridge/Copper Mountain, Co.
