White Lake threw up some very demanding conditions that Asher, the 2005/6 World Champion, was the only slalom skier to consistently deal with. In the final he became the only skier to round all six buoys on the 10.75 metre rope length throughout the weekend and took the win ahead of American Chris Parrish’s score of 3 buoys on the same line length. Italian Thomas Degasperi came third with 0.50 buoy on the 10.75m rope. This was Asher’s third major win of the 2008 season having already picked up his second prestigious US Masters title and met with much success on the MasterCraft Pro Tour.
Asher’s British Team colleague, Jason Seels, also made the podium in men’s jump with yet another very consistent performance. His 62.9 metre effort in the final put him in third place behind Canadian Jaret Llewellyn’s 64.7m and Freddy Kruegger’s (USA) winning jump of 66.7 metres.
The British squad cross the Atlantic this week for the first of the season’s World Cup stops in Moscow before returning to their home water at the National Training Site at Thorpe in Surrey for the national championships the following weekend.
